6sigmastudy Accreditation: What It Means and How It Compares

Professional compares Six Sigma course outlines

6sigmastudy describes itself as a global accreditation body for Six Sigma certifications, and that wording is what most people mean when they ask whether it is accredited. In practice, 6sigmastudy is a certification provider: it sets the body of knowledge, runs the exams and awards its own belts. That is a different thing from a certification scheme that has been independently audited against ISO 17024, which is how ASQ describes its Black Belt. Neither model is automatically right for you. The better question is which credential suits your goal, your employer and your budget.

This guide explains the terms, sets 6sigmastudy next to ASQ and other providers, and shows how to choose a belt without relying on assumptions.

What “accreditation” can mean for a Six Sigma belt

The word is used in three different ways in this field, and mixing them up causes most of the confusion.

  1. A provider calling itself an accreditation body. 6sigmastudy uses this phrase for itself, for example in its official social media description. It tells you who awards the belt. It is the provider’s own statement about its role.
  2. Third-party accreditation of a certification scheme. Here an independent accreditation body audits the certifying organisation against a standard for certifying people. ASQ states that its Six Sigma Black Belt certification is accredited by ANAB under ISO 17024, which it presents as impartial validation of how the programme is developed, run and maintained.
  3. Accredited training partners. Many providers license training centres, which then say they are “accredited” to teach the provider’s syllabus. That tells you the course follows the provider’s material, not that the certificate has been audited externally.

So when you see “accredited” on a Six Sigma page, ask: accredited by whom, and what exactly was accredited, the training, the exam or the certification scheme?

There is no single legal regulator

Six Sigma is not a licensed profession in the UK or elsewhere. No statute says a Green Belt must come from a particular body. Several organisations award belts under their own standards, which is why a belt from one provider is not interchangeable with a belt from another. Treat every comparison as provider-specific.

What 6sigmastudy certification is

6sigmastudy is one of the certification brands we work with, alongside SCRUMstudy and SMstudy. Its belts are built around its own Six Sigma body of knowledge and are examined online. We can tell you what the GetVoucher catalogue contains, and what you should confirm on the provider’s pages before you pay.

The belts in our catalogue are:

Credential Price at GetVoucher
Six Sigma Yellow Belt (SSYB™) £0
Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB™) £149
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB™) £290
Dual 6Sigma Pack (SSGB and LSSGB) £418
Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB™) £299

All are one-off prices. What each purchase includes, such as training access, materials or exam access, is set per product, so read the product page for the belt you want rather than assuming every voucher includes the same things.

Six Sigma, Lean and Lean Six Sigma are not the same thing

Six Sigma focuses on reducing variation and defects in a process using data. Lean focuses on removing waste and improving flow. Lean Six Sigma combines the two toolsets. That is why 6sigmastudy offers both a Six Sigma Green Belt and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt with separate syllabi, and why the dual pack exists for people who want both. If you are unsure which to start with, our guide to how Six Sigma certification paths differ by belt lays out the order and rules.

Six Sigma, Lean and Lean Six Sigma compared

DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) is the improvement cycle most Six Sigma courses teach. It is used in Six Sigma, in Lean and in wider process improvement, and it is not tied to one provider.

6sigmastudy and ASQ side by side

This is where the comparison matters, because the two work on different models. We keep them separate here, as their requirements are provider-specific. GetVoucher sells 6sigmastudy vouchers. ASQ credentials are external options, and we do not sell them.

Question 6sigmastudy ASQ
Who sets the standard? 6sigmastudy, using its own body of knowledge ASQ, using its own body of knowledge
Third-party accreditation statement Confirm the current wording on the provider’s own site Black Belt: ANAB accreditation under ISO 17024, stated by ASQ
Exam delivery Online; check the product page for each belt’s format Set by ASQ; check ASQ for current format and fees
Work experience Check the provider’s eligibility page for each belt Green Belt needs relevant work experience but not a documented project; Black Belt has separate project requirements
Renewal Provider-specific; confirm per belt Provider-specific; confirm per level

On ASQ’s Green Belt, a supply-chain career guide reports three years of full-time, paid on-the-job experience in the relevant body of knowledge, and the Black Belt adds a completed project requirement. Check ASQ’s own certification pages for the current wording before you apply.

What this means in practice

If a job advert, a procurement framework or a client contract names ASQ, buy ASQ. Nothing else substitutes for a named requirement. If no specific body is named, the decision is more open, and you can weigh cost, study format and how quickly you want a recognised credential.

We do not claim that a 6sigmastudy belt, or any belt, guarantees a job, a salary or a promotion, and we do not claim employers prefer one provider’s belt over another. Recognition varies by employer, sector and country. Ask the hiring manager or your quality team which credentials they value.

Are 6sigmastudy certificates worth having?

A belt certificate shows you completed a defined body of knowledge and passed that provider’s assessment. It does not on its own prove you can run an improvement project, and it is not proof of real-world performance. What it can do is give structure to your learning and a verifiable starting point for conversations about your skills.

Here is where we think the 6sigmastudy route fits well:

  • You are new to process improvement. The Yellow Belt voucher costs £0, so you can study the vocabulary and basic concepts before spending anything.
  • You want a flexible, online route. Self-paced study and online exams suit working professionals who cannot attend classroom courses.
  • You want to build up gradually. You can move from Yellow to Green, then consider Black Belt, and decide at each step whether to continue.
  • You want both Six Sigma and Lean. The dual pack covers the two Green Belts at £418.

The route fits less well if a named external body is already required by your employer. In that case, you may still use the 6sigmastudy material as a complement, but the required credential comes first.

How to read 6sigmastudy reviews

You will find reviews, ratings and forum threads about 6sigmastudy. Use them carefully. A single learner’s experience of one course, one exam sitting or one customer-service query says little about every belt. Look for specifics: which belt, which year, what study material, what result. Ignore anything that offers a pass rate with no definition, because a pass rate is not the same as a passing score. The first describes how many candidates pass; the second is the mark you need to reach. We do not publish testimonials we cannot verify.

Exam format: do not assume

Exam length, number of questions, delivery and passing score differ by belt and by provider. Our guide to Six Sigma exam formats by provider keeps those details separate. A few principles help:

  • Online delivery does not tell you whether an exam is open-book. Read the exam instructions.
  • Proctored does not mean more credible, and unproctored does not mean less. It is a delivery choice, set by each provider.
  • Whether a belt needs a documented project is provider-specific. Some credentials require one, many do not, and no model is universally better. Our comparison of exam-only and project-based Six Sigma certifications walks through the trade-offs.

If you want hands-on experience, a practical project is a sensible addition to your portfolio. Keep it clearly separate from official certification requirements, so you describe your credentials accurately to employers.

We have also seen this question about SCRUMstudy

Readers often ask the same thing about SCRUMstudy, the sister brand behind our Scrum vouchers. The logic is the same: SCRUMstudy is the certifying provider, and its qualifications follow its own SBOK Guide rather than the Scrum Guide. Those are different documents, and you should keep them apart. The Scrum Guide defines Scrum; the SBOK Guide is SCRUMstudy’s own reference. Our SBOK Guide 4th Edition listing is the printed reference for that syllabus.

SCRUMstudy SMC® and SAMC™ use online unproctored exams. Neither is a generic proctored assessment, and neither is a Scrum.org or Scrum Alliance credential. We do not sell those.

How to choose your belt

Use this order of questions:

  1. Does anyone require a specific credential? If an employer, client or tender names ASQ or another body, start there.
  2. What is your experience? If you have never worked on process improvement, begin with the Yellow Belt, or go to Green if you already apply DMAIC-style methods in your job.
  3. Is your work Lean-heavy? Waste, flow and lead time suggest the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Variation and defect reduction suggest the Six Sigma Green Belt.
  4. How much do you want to spend? Compare the total cost: exam fee, any mandatory training, optional preparation, retakes and renewal. An exam-only voucher is not always the cheapest route once everything is added up.
  5. Do you want a project? If you want one, plan it separately and treat it as portfolio work.

Our perspective

We built GetVoucher because certification should be easier to reach and clearer to compare. When readers ask whether 6sigmastudy is “accredited”, we think the honest answer starts with how the credential is structured: 6sigmastudy certifies against its own body of knowledge and exams, and it describes itself as an accreditation body. ASQ certifies on a different model and states ANAB accreditation for its Black Belt. We do not think that makes the choice a contest.

What we see in practice is that people use a Yellow Belt to test the water, a Green Belt to formalise skills they already use, and a Black Belt when they want to go deeper. A £0 Yellow Belt and a £149 Green Belt make the first steps low-risk, and the structured online route fits people who work full time. We believe that is a real advantage for career changers and working professionals who would otherwise delay certification.

Our advice is simple: pick the credential that matches the requirement in front of you, study the provider’s own syllabus, and describe your qualification precisely, with the provider’s name and the belt. That is how you keep your CV credible.

Where GetVoucher fits

If you have decided the 6sigmastudy route suits you, our Six Sigma certification page explains the Green Belt route, and each belt has its own voucher page with the price and what is included. Start with the free Yellow Belt if you are new, or choose the Six Sigma Green Belt at £149 if you already work on process improvement.

GetVoucher

If you are not sure how a voucher differs from a course purchase, our explainer on what an exam voucher means covers redemption. Redemption deadlines and exam completion deadlines can differ, so check the terms on the product page before you buy. If you need a refund or extension, UK consumer-rights guidance applies alongside the provider’s own policy.

FAQ

Is 6sigmastudy accredited?

6sigmastudy describes itself as a global accreditation body for Six Sigma certifications, meaning it awards its own belts against its own body of knowledge. That is different from ASQ, which states that its Black Belt programme is accredited by ANAB under ISO 17024. Confirm the current accreditation wording on 6sigmastudy’s own site before relying on it.

Is 6sigmastudy better than ASQ?

Neither is better in general. They use different standards, requirements and exam models. ASQ’s Green Belt needs relevant work experience, and its Black Belt has separate project requirements. Choose ASQ if a role names it, and consider 6sigmastudy when you want a flexible online route and no named body is required.

Do 6sigmastudy reviews prove the certificate is worth it?

No. Reviews describe individual experiences of particular courses and exams. Read them for detail about the belt, the year and the study material, and treat them as one input. Your employer’s requirements matter more.

How much does a 6sigmastudy belt cost through GetVoucher?

The Yellow Belt is £0, the Six Sigma Green Belt £149, the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt £290, the Black Belt £299 and the Dual 6Sigma Pack £418. Each is a one-off price, and inclusions vary by product, so check the product page.

Does a Six Sigma belt guarantee a job or a higher salary?

No. A belt shows you completed a provider’s syllabus and passed its assessment. It does not prove real-world performance or guarantee employment, pay or promotion.
